  2. The only way to liveblog the Uteck is to do it basically at the same time as this liveblog (thus stretching ourselves, and our audience, in half), and as far as I can tell, by watching a French-language webcast.

Is there really no way they could have delayed one of these games so they didn't start an hour apart?

  3. Okay what will be the easiest way to get Vanier Cup tix?

  4. Show up an hour or two before game time and wait....and negotiate.
You should be able to get a pair on the 55 yard line for a song...just look for the guy wearing the Laval jacket with the long face and a mittful of now unwanted tickets.
    Tee-hee.

  5. Go Home Laval!!! Not only are Queen's players better on in the classroom, we now know they are better on the field. Lets face it..you Laval MEN couldn't have gotten into Queen's. Laval players are there because they can't get into McGill either! So take that Laval. You bullied your way to the top, but in the end, integrity wins over all. In spite of a totally unequal playing field.....Queen's ruled.

  6. Come on... I am no Laval fan (the uni and the football team) but Queen's is not that hard to get into, especially if you are an athlete. By the way, Laval has more academic all canadian athletes than Queen's.

  7. 87% average to get into Queen's. You know, and so do I. Lets be honest....Laval's boys are men...they have finished playing junior elsewhere, then go to "university"..which is completely subsized by the Gov't unlike in Ontario where these boys are on their own. Laval's players go to university after their junior careers are over, not to study, but to continue to play ball. Queen's boys will be making 6 figures by the time they are the average age that the Laval "boys" are now. No contest.....Queen's boys deserve huge credit. AGAINST ALL ODDS.

  8. It's going to be ugly at the peps stadium if you get in there with that attitude of yours! How do you think this is going to end? Overturned buses? Brawls? A riot maybe? You won? Fine. Congrats. By the way, where was security at the end of the game? What I saw at the end was a total disgrace...you know, all those acne-covered kids acting like a bunch of chimpanzees in front of the Laval players. Call SPCA someone! Act like winners, not like losers!

  9. Congrats to Queen's for playing an awesome game and for winning. I love any team who beats Laval, really. And this game was very enjoyable.

This being said, to those of you who think so highly of Queen's... So you need an 87% average to get in... Ask Queen's football coaches how many of their players had such an avegage. I am certain a fair number got in with lower, maybe much lower averages than that.

What's more, an 87% average in Ontario is like having a high 70% average in the QC Cegep system. It's good but it's by no means great. Before anyone contradicts me on that point, ask McGill, Concordia and Bishop's admissions officers if an 87% average in Ontario is that great. More importantly, ask them which student will be more mature and has a greater chance of success in university: the Ontario student or the Cegep student.

On another note, Ontario subsidizes its post-secondary education system too. That's why your tuition is $5-6000, not $12-15000. The same goes with your college system (Seneca, Humber, etc.). Tuition would be much higher if it wasn't for gov. subsidies.

Finally, most QC university students are 19 at the start of their studies. So yes, they are a little older than Ontario students. But they also graduate within 3 years, not 4. So the age difference is only relevant to 'first year' students.

Again, I am no Laval University or Laval R&O fan. But your comments are baseless and reflect your poor understanding of what's not Ontarian. You should represent Queen's a little better my friend.

PS: If you make the trip to QC City next week, try not to vandalize stuff and try to be polite. I know it's hard for an average Ontarian to understand, but just so you know, this is not an acceptable behaviour in most areas around the world, and certainly not in your neighbouring province. Oh wait, did you know there was a world out there??? ;)

  10. What "stuff" got vandalized?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ontarians who go to Quebec on vacation or for their studies occasionally like to vandalize cars, bars, restaurants and their favourite: hotel rooms. They burn couches, they like to fight, insult policemen and sometimes 'forget' to pay for their taxi ride. They also forget that they are in a francophone province. Trying to say bonjour and merci once in a while would be polite. Can 'bright' Queen's students do that? Laval university students can usually manage to say hi and thank you, at least. But what do I know, I didn't go to Queen's and have yet to earn a 6 figure salary...

  12. Hey everyone, you know what nobody wants to read? This. Knock it off.

  13. Laval fans who are upset at the way Queen's fans acted...Grow up!!!!!!!

After the 2000 Dunsmore Cup someone came after Phil Cote with a glass liquor bottle and was stopped by uOttawa fans with not a cop in sight. This is a fact of life in CIS football.

  14. From a Queen's Fan:

It is understood (proven) that Laval has an excellent football program - one which will be modelled due to its success. It was rewarding to see that others can still compete with them. Hopefully, this is Queen's year.

  15. I wrote a previous post on the way fans reacted...I don't have anything against fans reacting or celebrating. I just don't understand why security(if there was any...) let fans rush onto the field and let some idiots get near the Laval bench while the players were very emotional...This could have been ugly had the Laval players decided not to accept this kind of humiliation. What I saw on TV, I am going to say it again, was a DISGRACE. These fans are the ones that have to grow up. The Laval players have once again shown how classy they are.

  16. With respects to the way the fans reacted.

Queen's just knocked off the Canadian football powerhouse in what was an amazing and emotional football game!!! How can you not be excited if you are a Queen's student. Secondly, why get upset at the fans for rushing the field and celebrating with the team? After all, the players do have a lot of friends. (Yes, slamming jackets in front of the Laval bench might have been disrespectful but that's a tradition that has been with Queen's for decades, it happens) Thirdly, there was security working the game and in the last minute they lined up facing the student crowd. Do you really think they were going to stop the students?? No they weren't. 7000 screaming fans vs. maybe 15-20 security personnel. So please, before you start talking about how disgraceful the students are and all the other previous insults, think about what you would have done if you were a 19 year old Uni student who just watched their team win an amazing game against an amazing team to earn a birth in the national championship...
