Late-night rounds ...

Football
  • First-year McMaster offensive coordinator Jon Behie says the Marauders' aim is to "play fast." In other words, up-tempo. What else would you expect from a former basketball player? Hamilton Spectator

  • Guelph's star running back, Nick Fitzgibbon, is gung-ho to get on some special teams. It is probably good for his upward mobility, CFL-wise. Is he going to score passing, rushing, receiving and return TDs all in one game? (Guelph Mercury)

  • Western's new veteran receiver, Josh Svec, sure is glad to be catching passes from Michael Faulds:
"I’ve played with every kind of quarterback at Waterloo. Left-handers, veterans, rookies and Michael is the best quarterback I’ve ever been associated with."
    (London Free Press)

  • The sprained ankle Queen's combination kicker Dan Village suffered vs. Toronto might keep him out of the season opener. Helllllooooo, Mike Petranovic! It just so happens Queen's opener is vs. Guelph, who has arguably the OUA's best kicker, Rob Maver (Western's Darryl Wheeler is pretty good, too). (Kingston Whig-Standard)

  • The regional breakdown of the UFRC/CIS Top 10 is quite illuminating, especially where voters from Canada West have Queen's rated No. 5 and the voters back East rank them No. 9. (University Football Reporters of Canada)

  • For those who didn't see it, the CIS Twitter will have quarter-by-quarter scores of all football games beginning with the McGill-Montréal game on Thursday.

Hockey
  • It's been mentioned before, but the Edmonton Oilers likely will have Alberta grad Aaron Sorochan competing for a goaltending job in their system. (Faceoff.com)

  • Canadian national team defender Delaney Collins (Alberta Pandas) is a couple weeks away from returning after a concussion. (The Canadian Press)

  1. Sorochan will be competing to play behind Devan Dubnyk in Springfield of the AHL. He will also likely be in uniform for the Oiler rookies when they face-off against the Bears on Fri. Sept. 11.
