Hockey: Nipissing gets first regular-season win

This might not be last post about a Nipissing Lakers hockey first.

Andrew Marcoux — a one-time Kingston Kimco Voyageur — scored on the game's first shirt and the Mike McParland-coached Lakers tacked on four goals in a 12:37 span of second period for an 8-2 rout of the Concordia Stingers.

Sam Hopewell, who played in the Ottawa-region Central Junior Hockey League with the Kemptville 73s, also scored twice. Former Ottawa 67 Matt Lahey also assisted on three of those first five goals.

It is only one game, but still. Ryerson probably had its first three-point Quebec road swing in some time. The Rams came within 75 seconds of beating UQTR in a 4-3 shootout loss to the No. 5 team in the country. Talk about an opening weekend of semi-surprises in the OUA East.
