Hockey: A lot to glean as AUS drops puck

The "road to Thunder Bay," as it's been called by the Fredericton Daily Gleaner, begins tonight in AUS men's hockey.

David Kilfoil previewed the conference on Wednesday, but the way the Daily G. went to town rates a linkin' log of its own.

Let's see: Bill Hunt figures UNB is the team to beat and is complimentary of the recruiting job St. Thomas Tommies coach Mike Eagles has done. The women's hockey Tommies and their goalie, Julia Sharun, got above-the-fold coverage. (Worth filing away: The AUS will have two teams at the women's nationals, with St. FX as host. Quebec also sends two.)

Then there are team-by-team breakdowns of the Acadia Axemen, Dalhousie Tigers, Moncton Aigles Bleus, UPEI Panthers, St. FX X-Men, defending conference champion Saint Mary's Huskies, St. Thomas Tommies and defending University Cup champion UNB Varsity Reds.

Suffice to say, a lot of people in Fredericton might not get too much work done this afternoon. They'll all be reading up on the AUS!
