Bleeding Tricolour: The Eagles will land, yet

Permission to go off-topic? Out of Left Field readers might remember a post from last fall about the football team at my old high school winning its debut game in the Kingston-area high school league. It must have gone viral. One member of the Ernestown Eagles left a comment on it a couple days ago.

ESS has banked two wins so far in Year 2 and the Kingston Whig-Standard ran a nice feature in today's edition on the Eagles' 180-pound centre, Brian Lardner, who anchors a line which has not allowed a sack yet this season. Recruiters might note the O-line includes "gargantuan guard" Jake Gibson, who is 6-foot-4 and 310 lbs. (That's all we know.)

It is not CIS, but please understand ... Queen's has a tradition of announcing the high school of a local player during pregame introductions. The lyrics of Steely Dan's My Old School have been taken to heart, but it would be nice to hear a player announced someday as a "graduate of the Ernestown Eagles" alongside all those favourite sons of Bayridge, Frontenac, Holy Cross, Regi, La Salle, Sydenham and even Napanee. Maybe someday!
