"Rana's signing shows the commitment Ryerson University has made to athletics and the basketball program. Plans apparently are in the making for a modern, new gymnasium with seating of 2,000+ for basketball situated near the Rye campus in downtown Toronto and Rana's signing is the first of many planned milestones for a program now brimming with optimism." — cishoops.caRana has been director of development for Basketball Ontario, which is doing not half-bad these days. Both the boys and girls teams won gold at the under-15 nationals, which is the first step toward guiding players toward international play.
Ryerson's coaching search was a hot topic a couple weeks ago. Rana's track record speaks for itself and, hey, it wouldn't hurt if a downtown Toronto school whose alumni include many movers and shakers in the Canadian sports media had a more prominent basketball team.

There is a guy over at Hoopstalk.ca who claims that Dave DeAveiro was offered the Ryerson job on Aug 4, thought about it a couple of days and turned it down. Is it true? Did Ottawa counter Ryerson's offer with a better one?
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm not inside enough to know that answer.
ReplyDeleteIt is understandable why there would be such speculation — initially word was they would hire a coach Aug. 4, now it's getting settled Aug. 14. It's only human nature to wonder.
You can bet Ottawa is relieved this is over.
ReplyDeleteHad Ottawa U lost him to Ryerson, it would have taken years to wipe the egg off their face.
