  • UNB Varsity Reds great Darryl Boyce, who re-signed with the AHL's Toronto Marlies, isn't the only CIS alumni to sign a contract ... former Alberta Golden Bears centre Dylan Stanley has joined the ECHL's Florida Everblades after a season putting up sick numbers in the German second division. (Fort Myers News-Press)
  • Winger Darrell May (UBC) has signed with the ECHL's Idaho Steelheads. May carried the T-Birds during their drive to a Canada West playoff berth last season (Idaho Press-Tribune)
  • There is plenty of talk about which junior players are joining university teams. (HFBoards)
  • Old news, but Nipissing got it right with their hockey jerseys. More teams should pair green with blue. As an aside, simplicity beats complicated in jersey design, although some teams sometimes choose ones which are boring. (North Bay Nugget; there is video of the sweaters)
Football
  • NFL rookie Vaughn Martin (Western) likes him some Mario Kart. (Chargers.com)

  • Winnipeg Blue Bombers safety Ian Logan (Laurier) spent his off-season working for RIM which means his boss was Jim Balsillie. (Sun Media)

  • Wideout Blaine Kruger (UBC) is taking first-team snaps with the Calgary Stampeders. (Calgary Herald)

Basketball
  • The Vermont Catamounts, a NCAA Tournament team last season, have announced dates for games in the hometowns of senior guards Courtnay Pilypaitis (Ottawa) and May Kotsopoulos (Waterloo). This has been noted before, but the Catamounts will play Carleton (Aug. 27, 8 p.m.) and Ottawa (Aug. 28, 1 p.m.) , then play Laurier on Aug. 29. Vermont has six Canadian players, although four are freshmen who won't be on the trip. (press release)

  1. Would it have killed Nipissing (or whoever is responsible) to have actually put some effort into designing those? There's nothing on the front of the jerseys. Boring! Simple and uninteresting aren't the same. The colour scheme is nice though.
