Football: Planting seeds for a second team in N.B.

"Our young people are leaving. Why don't we create something that keeps our kids here and allows them to play at a higher level? We're creating a place for kids to play locally. The base is there." — Barry Ogden
This story is a couple days old, but there are efforts underway to get a junior football league running in the Maritimes this summer.

The hook is actually would include a team called the UNB Red Bombers, reviving the name of the university team which last played 30 years ago. It's only bound to increase speculation that UNB might return to the Atlantic conference. The bottom line is there are more players, and people have come around to the notion that football can draw students.

There was dot-org talk that UNB Saint John might be a better place to put a football team. There needs to be some clarification over whether Canadian Interuniversity Sport is cool with teams based on satellite campus. The question was come in reference to potential member UBC Okanagan.
