Bracketology: Once more into the breach

The consensus of the group seems to be that Calgary will be the 2 seed ahead of UBC based on their post-season win, the 4-5-6 spots are a toss-up between Concordia, Ottawa and Western, and Dalhousie has to be ahead of St. FX, which falls heir to the wild card since 30-point losses in the playoffs were the KOD for Windsor and Trinity Western.

Let it be recorded in the minutes that two weeks ago, Rich was the only one of us who saw Calgary as the No. 2 seed. Jared was the only one who had St. FX any lower than sixth.

  1. Wow, no love for Dal in the brackets. Remember that last year Saint Mary's ended up with the No. 3 seed despite being outside the Top 10 for the second half of the season, as the seeding committee rewarded teams for actually winning conference titles. If they approach it the same way this year I wouldn't be surprised if Dal ends up higher than seventh.

  2. If you move up Dal, you'd need to move up Concordia as well, and I don't see the top 3 being anyone other than Carleton, Calgary and UBC, personally.

  3. The seeding in last year's tournament was ridiculous.
SMU should not have been ranked ahead of Acadia...the Axemen should have gotten that 3 spot and thus could have set up a Carleton-Acadia final.
Anyway, that's water under the bridge.
Good news for UBC...no unlucky 2 seed this time.

I saw this suggested on CHT Hoop Talk:

    1. Carleton
    2. Calgary
    3. Western
    4. UBC
    5. Ottawa
    6. Concordia
    7. Dalhousie
    8. X

    Makes sense to me.
Normally, UBC would go 3, but to avoid an all OUA first round matchup UBC will get the 4 spot.
Interesting thing about this suggested bracket is the possibility that Carleton could face the three teams in this tournament that they have already played this year.

  4. Wow, UBC-Ottawa at 4-5 in that last one; that would be one heck of a first-round battle. I still think Ottawa should wind up above Western; they only lost to Carleton, and they've been great all year long. Western hasn't impressed me as much so far.
