Hockey: UQTR drops another series opener at home ice

It used to be unheard of for a team to come out of Trois-Rivières' home rink, Le Colisée, with a win.

The Patriotes, after a 3-1 loss to McGill in Game 1 of the OUA semi-final series (or Eastern Conference final), are just 1-2 on home ice in these playoffs. The one win, keep in mind, was a double-overtime decision over Carleton where they coughed up a three-goal lead.

Kevin Desfossés stopped 32-of-33 shots for the Redmen, who scored all three of their goals on the power play. It could just be that UQTR has run into two hot goalies in a row, and it's always tough to start a new series, especially coming off one that went the distance and involving coming from behind.

It was just a bad night for any Ontario/Quebec team which was playing at home. No. 3 Laurier is also one loss from elimination after a 4-3 loss to Western, which got the game-winner from Yashar Farmanara with 1:26 to play.

Carleton also beat host Ottawa 2-1 in double OT in Game 1 of the QSSF women's semi-final series which will decide a berth at the national championship. Jennifer Gordon scored the winner for the Ravens after 27 minutes of overtime.
