Men's hoops: Your Wednesday update

  • Windsor 71 @ McMaster 80: It's not looking good for the Lancers; that's their second straight loss to an OUA rival and their third iffy outing in as many games. (They won't be hurt too much in the RPI, though; it was a road loss against a decent team.) Five Marauders hit double digits; the Lancers not named Greg Surmacz shot 27%.

  • Western 66 @ Waterloo 57: If Matt Hayes' three blocks got an exclamation mark from Neate last week, how about five (!!!) tonight? Unfortunately, every other Warrior was shooting 2-of-6 or 2-of-7 tonight and they couldn't catch up in the second half after Hayes was the only one with more than three in the first. Keenan Jeppesen grabbed 20, Alex Brzozowicz 17. Western also deserves a lot of credit for allowing just six free throws, even though they were in the bonus early on. They are indeed scary good.

Other results from today or yesterday: SMU 94 @ Acadia 87: Alex Traikov with 29 points in 31 minutes for the Axemen and Joey Haywood with 35 in the whole game for the winners; and Laurier over Guelph 79-74.

  1. That last call on the Lancers with 30 seconds to go was horrible. refs shouldn't be deciding who wins the game.

  2. Windsor shouldn't need a last-second call to beat Mac. If it was against Western, I'd have an issue.

Bad night for big men; Surmacz's poor shooting percentage and Duncan Milne missed more bunnies than Elmer Fudd.

  3. Won't disagree there...this Windsor team has loads of talent. They need to start playing as a TEAM!

  4. Since beating Carleton by 12 points in their season opener, the Lancers have been merely a .500 team.
Not only has Windsor lost five of their last ten games, it's who they've lost to that's shocking.
Losing to Mac, a team Carleton dismantled 74-49 in November.
Losing to Laurentian, for pete's sake, a team that was winless until they played Windsor and have won only once since...against RMC.
Three of those five losses have come on the road, which isn't surprising, considering the Lancers hardly have a reputation of being road warriors.
But now, the Lancers are even dropping games at the St Denis Center, a place where in previous years they have been all but invincible.
At the rate they are going, Windsor won't be home at all for any post season play...if they make the playoffs, that is.

  5. I would be so negative. Fact is, a break here and there...the Lancers could easily be 9-2...or better.
    Lost to Ottawa by 2...
Lost to LU by 1 on 3 buzzer beater that might not have been a 3.
Lost to Queens on a last second shot.
Lost to Waterloo by 3 in the dying seconds.
Lost to Mac in OT on a questionable foul in the last 30 seconds.
My concern is that they aren't closing teams out in the last minutes of these games. Good teams do that.

  6. Good news! The National Capital Hoops Classic men's basketball game between #1 Carleton and #2 uOttawa is being shown across the country on The Score.
    Jan 28th at 8 pm.

  7. Actually, they're airing both. A post will be up shortly.
