Football: Glavic follows Nill to Calgary

"We obviously heard lots of rumours that had gone around about this, but at the end of the day we felt Erik was going to be a part of our program until he graduated and I guess that’s the assumption you make every time that people are in your program ... He felt at this time there were different options more suitable to what he was looking for and felt a change was in order. From our standpoint we spent a long tumultuous year, to say the least, at that (quarterback) position and we’re excited by the fact Jack Creighton is taking the helm and is our No. 1 guy. The team has rallied behind him." — Saint Mary's coach Steve Sumurah, in the Halifax Herald
As fate would have it, the Canada West champion will travel East for the Uteck Bowl national semi-final next season, against the Atlantic champion. Wouldn't that be a hoot if Calgary ends up facing SMU, with Glavic and Blake Nill in red. Without knowing what everyone else in Canada West would have next season, this keeps Calgary on the frontburner in Vanier Cup talks.

The extenuating circumstances include the fact that the Dinos are due to get QB Dalin Tollestrup, the 2006 Canada West rookie of the year, back from his two-year Mormon mission. Again,

Calgary is not providing further comment until next Friday. Until then, speculation is bound run as rampant as Glavic did in '06 and '07 for Saint Mary's.
