Football: Asselin named Gee-Gees interim coach

Jean-Philippe Asselin, whose playing career overlapped with some fifth-year seniors-to-be in the OUA , will be the Ottawa Gee-Gees interim coach this fall.

That is pretty much in line with the scuttlebutt, that the 27-year-old Asselin would be part of some sort of co-coach arrangement. Asselin, who played for the Gee-Gees from 2003-06, will have the coach title. Sean Hall is adding the title of assistant head coach to his portfolio as the defensive coordinator.

Basically, this was the most expeditious decision, since Asselin was already a full-time assistant and Ottawa isn't adding salary. It is fair to wonder how the turnover will affect discipline, especially for a team which has struggled to stay on the right side of the penalty flags.

  1. Maybe he will bring more discipline with his new found authority. If he does and the Gee-Gees do well because of it, he might be a cadidate for the full time job when it is open to compettion in the fall.
