Hoops: Taking the fifth worked for Carpenter

Great feature in the hometown Sudbury Star on Laurentian Lady Vees guard Cassandra Carpenter, who over the weekend became the all-time CIS scoring leader in women's basketball.

Carpenter's story, as told by my friend Trevor Stewart, has a bit of an only-in-the-CIS quality to it. As a 5-foot-11 'tweener (she started out as a forward at Laurentian), she was lightly recruited out of high school, with only LU and Carleton showing much interest in her as a basketball player. You can see that she's the kind of player who's really gained from being able to take that fifth year of eligility and polish her game up a bit, in hope of playing pro in Europe.
