Hockey: In or out, 4th or 5th, bye or no bye

There are three main storylines in OUA hockey on this final weekend of the season:
  • Concordia fans will be interested in McGill vs. Carleton tonight, as a Ravens loss keeps the Stingers in the race for the 6th and final playoff position. Of course, Concordia still needs to win, which they will try to do at home against UQTR. (They lost 5-2 on Wednesday in the first game of the home-and-home series.) We already know the top 3 seeds in the East; this weekend will determine the other three.
  • Western's 5-4 overtime loss to Waterloo here on Tuesday night means Lakehead picks up the first-round bye. Laurier beat Waterloo last night, so both teams have 34 points. One of them will host the other in the first round. The Warriors' last game is tonight at home against the last-place Lancers; a win there might seal up #4 for UW.
  • The Blues have two games left to pick up a win and the last remaining first-round bye. They play Lakehead tonight and Ryerson tomorrow night; both games are at home.
Note that Lakehead has three games in three days to finish the season, though thankfully for the team, none of those games matter.
