Football: Santerre out as UdeM head coach

News came out tonight that Marc Santerre will not have his contract renewed as head coach of the UdeM Carabins.

Santerre had a 27-20 record as head man of the Carabins, but will ultimately be known for falling short of bringing home a Quebec championship, and never beating the Laval Rouge et Or in the playoffs. His team's poor performance against Sherbrooke in the Quebec semi final was the last straw.

Montreal will now look to hire their third head coach since the program started in 2002. Montreal had been known to have undisciplined teams throughout Santerre's tenure, something I have heard people say goes back to coaching. Over at Allezlesbleus.ca, they say that there will be changes among the assistant coaches as well.

I know a lot of people who were critical of Santerre, and it seems like his time finally ran out. I am sure that Montreal was ultimately disappointed with the results which led to the contract not being renewed.

  1. Failing to win is one thing, but I think it also has to do with the image of both the team and the school.

Will be interesting to see what type of personality the new coach(es) have.
