Hockey: UQTR clinches OUA East

McGill's road back to the University Cup is going through Trois-Rivières.

UQTR's 5-4 win over the Redmen at McConnell Arena - Felix Petit's early third-period goal 70 seconds after McGill made it a one-shot game stood as the winner - all but wrapped up first place in the OUA East. The Patriotes only need one point in their two remaining games.

The twist is that under the former playoff format, McGill made it to nationals two seasons in a row after finishing behind UQTR in the regular season. One half-wonders if McGill is hoping Carleton, which has played UQTR tough at times, finishes fourth and thus will be on a collision course with the Pats.

  1. It certainly has been a tale of two seasons in the OUA this year. In the first half, McGill and Western both looked like locks to finish first in their respective divsions. UQTR had a lot of doubters earlier this year but they sure look good heading into the playoffs.
