Hockey: Concordia's Joyal makes 65 saves in shootout loss

Here you thought the goaltenders in Wednesday's OHL all-star game (the East won 17-10) were hung out to dry.

You've heard of a mile a minute? Concordia 'tender Maxime Joyal averaged a save per minute on Wednesday. He stopped 65 of 68 shots, including 29-of-30 in the opening period, before his Stingers lost 4-3 in a shootout to No. 3 UQTR. The Patriotes were within four minutes of being upset before Alexandre Blais tied the game with 3:50 left.

That is two weeks in a row UQTR fired 50-plus shots in regulation and overtime and ended up going to penalty shots. They went 3-for-5 on Joyal, whom one can only imagine was mentally wrung out by that point.

Concordia has a one-game lead over Ottawa for the final OUA East playoff berth. Imagine if they have to play UQTR again.
