Stuart Turnbull is climbing the ladder. The Carleton Ravens grad, who was Final 8 MVP in 2009, dropped us a line on Monday that he has signed (here's the translation) with the Hannover UBC Tigers of Germany's Pro A league for his second season playing aboard.
Turnbull, 25, averaged a team-high 18.1 points (in 29 minutes) as a rookie with SC Rist Wedel in the Pro B league. By his accounting, the club struggled. The proof of the seasons' success is in the fact he's moving up to a higher class of basketball.
From the sounds of it, Hannover had Turnbull on their radar screen prior to last season but figured he needed time in Pro B just to get a grounding in what to expect in the European game.
As always, the floor is open if anyone's heard of other CIS alumni who are playing overseas.
Former Gee-Gees captain and assistant coach James Derouin was named today as the new mens basketball HC . He is 34 and has been an assistant coach with UBC the last the seasons.
