Football: TSN runs reverse; Mitchell Bowl live; Uteck Bowl videocast on Radio-Canada

It's not clear if the greater good is served in this scenario, but TSN's schedule has been changed afor Saturday: The Laval-Queen's Mitchell Bowl will air at 1 p.m., with the Calgary-Saint Mary's Uteck Bowl tape-delayed four hours to 4 p.m. (it's noon ET kickoff). Presumably, Radio-Canada will remove its tape-delay. As the Kingston Whig-Standard notes:
"With Laval having a huge following in Quebec and Queen's having a big alumni base, the Mitchell Bowl is seen as being a bigger potential draw."
Laval and Queen's fans will like it, but it's a raw deal for AUS and Canada West supporters — although Radio-Canada is going to webcast both games, albeit en français. Most fans of the sport are probably assuming Calgary-Saint Mary's is the more even matchup of the two.

(Update) Calgary has sorted it out with the radio stations so the game will be broadcast by the FAN 960, with the feed being picked up and broadcast over the by a campus station, CJSW 90.9 FM.

The Uteck Bowl starts at 10 a.m. Calgary time, but the station has 1 p.m.-6 p.m. blocked out for Flames-L.A. Kings game (2 p.m. Mountain puck-drop). From their point of view, sponsors pay a pretty penny to be associated with Flames broadcasts and wouldn't want their spots pre-empted.

At this point, TSN maybe should consider streaming the other game.

The update from Kingston notes Queen's cannot start a game later than 1 p.m. due to "poor lighting at Richardson Stadium." (Plants tongue-in-cheek) See what happens when Ontario becomes a have-not province?

  1. Given the pick I would much rather see the Heavyweight Tilt between Calgary's O and Saint Mary's D then watch Laval beat up on Queen's!!!!

  2. The Calgary-SMU game is streamed on Radio-Canada, so you'll be able to, provided you can find it on their website and work around French commentary.
