Linking the country...

First things first: Please read Mike Aylward's survey of athletic directors and media personalities on how to get more exposure for Canadian Interuniversity Sport. Some responses in there might surprise, including one about getting the games on provincially run sports lotteries (such as Pro-Line in Ontario).

Football
  • Alberta slotback Mike Wasylyniuk already burned his old Saskatchewan Huskies teammates once this season (two touchdowns in a 27-7 Golden Bears win in September) and wouldn't mind doing so again in Friday's rematch. (Saskatoon Star-Phoenix)

  • TSN's awesome analyst Duane Forde believes Laurier might have up to six players invited to the CFL's evaluation camp, most notably CB Taurean Allen, DE Chima Ihekwoaba and SB Josh Bishop. (TSN.ca)

  • Normally, having a safety credited with the most tackles on the teams is a negative, but not when it's Matt Vickers of Queen's (and Golden Gaels middle linebacker T.J. Leeper is only one behind him). (Ottawa Sun)

  • Allez Les Bleus tees up the Bishop's-Montreal game.

  • Mount Allison had five sacks against Laval last week. Glen Constantin and other QUFL coaches surely noticed, even if the rest of us were distracted by that 66-point margin of victory. (Le Soleil)

  • The Huskies' 2005 recruiting class, seniors now, are still seeking their first trip to a Vanier Cup. (Huskies Football Outsider)

  • Dallas Carpenter from Huskies Football Outsider got to plant the University of Saskatchewan flag at centrefield before the Green Dogs' last home game. One season-ticket holder gets to do it at every game.
Hockey
  • The Lakehead Thunderwolves have added some scoring punch with Matt Dias (Sudbury Wolves) and Ryan McDonald (Regina Pats, Prince Albert Raiders) coming back from pro camps. Dias will be eligible after Christmas. (press release)

  • UPEI beat Moncton 6-2 last night despite having three defencemen ejected. (Charlottetown Guardian)
Basketball
  • Mark Wacyk looks at the weekend in men's basketball. (cishoops.ca)

  1. No mention of David Naylor's piece in the Globe on the lack of quality Canadian players to fill the quotas mandated by the CFL's affirmative-action policy?

  2. Haven't read it yet, was figuring on breaking something like that out for its own post.

  3. Naylor raises some good points in the piece, for one (without mentioning him by name), things are not good when the Cats are forced to utilize the regrettable Corey Grant.

  4. Putting "the regrettable" in front of someone's name is gold.
