Linking the country ...

Football
  • It's two new teams or bust as far as any QUFL expansion is concerned, in commish Tom Allen's view. The supply of players being produced in Quebec's CEGEP feeder system has outpaced the number of available roster spots, but no schools are talking of joining the league. (Versus Québec, Allez Les Bleus)

  • Under the heading of, "whatever you say," Simon Fraser and UBC would like the Shrum Bowl tradition to continue after the Clan move to NCAA Division II and four-down, 11-man, fair catch-havin' football. (Vancouver Province)

  • McMaster quarterback Kyle Quinlan and slotback Joey Forchesato will have a homecoming tonight vs. the Windsor Lancers. (Hamilton Spectator)

  • Queen's linebacker T.J. Leeper's mother, Genese Warr-Leeper, is a prof at Western, which not awkward at all. (Kingston Whig-Standard)
Basketball
  • cishoops.ca has this covered from all angles. How about the nights a pair of Saskatchewan Huskies had? Showron Glover scored 38 for the U of S men in their win over UPEI at Carleton's tournament, while Lindsay DeGroot hooped 33 for the women's hoops Huskies in a win over Western at Ryerson's tourney. That must have felt like deja vu for the Mustangs, who got to know DeGroot well when she starred at McMaster.
Hockey
  • AUS folks respect UNB, but don't love them. (Daily Gleaner)

  • Rookie centres Justin McCrae and Scott Wasden, who both played in the Memorial Cup as juniors, are happy at UBC. (Little Man on Campus)
Note to football-focused readers. Yours truly is travelling to and from Kingston for the Western-Queen's live blog and has family visiting, so the usual football digest might come late, late tonight. Enjoy the day!

  1. Montreal's recent win notwithstanding, an additional Francophone team or two would definitely lead to more parity in the QUFL and CIS. Only three programs to support a population of over 7 million?

  2. Quinlin's homecomeing made me homesick. Horrible game!
