Football: Ryan boots it for Seattle

Apparently, the NFL punter Jon Ryan, the Regina Rams (and Winnipeg Blue Bombers) alum, could be getting signed by the Seattle Seahawks.

It figures and not just because the Seahawks kicking game has lacked a CIS product since long snapper J.P. Darche left after the 2006 season. Seattle's special teams were seven kinds of putrid in their season-opening loss to the Buffalo Bills, who scored 27 points directly off Seahawks gaffes. Ryan Plackemeier set the Bills up with a short field twice with wobbly punts, on top of having one returned for a touchdown.

Ryan has also experience with kickoffs, meaning that in a pinch, he could probably fill in for Olindo Mare in that capacity. Seattle can't carry three kicking specialists, since they have so many injuries, especially at receiver.

(And of course, Ryan played a little wideout back in his days with the Rams. Maybe he's getting signed to do that -- just kidding. Glove tap to Rider Rumblings.)

  1. Good to see. I was pretty surprised to see Ryan cut by Green Bay, as he's always been quite a good punter. Nice that he found another spot.
